Who we are
Markdown Studio is a Markdown editor built by Perssonify Labs. This policy covers the hosted app at app.markdownstudio.com and this website at markdownstudio.com. Questions go to hello@markdownstudio.com.
The short version
- No analytics, tracking or ads in the editor.
- Google is used only to sign you in.
- Your notes live in your browser first and, when you're signed in, sync to encrypted storage.
- We never sell your data or use your writing to train AI.
- You can export everything at any time, and ask us to delete everything.
What we collect
- Your notes. Saved in your browser's own storage on your device.
- Synced content. While you're signed in, your notes, folders and images sync to your account so they're available on your other devices. They're stored in a private, encrypted storage bucket.
- Daily backup. While you use the app signed in, a full backup of your library is stored in your account once a day and kept for 30 days.
- Account details. Your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
- Sign-in session. To keep you signed in, we store a session record (your IP address and browser type) and the sign-in tokens Google issues.
- Messages. Anything you send us by email or through the contact page.
- Request logs. Standard server logs such as IP address and browser type, kept for security and reliability.
Links you import
When a site blocks your browser from reading a link you import, the app can fetch it through our server, but only after you agree. The file is passed straight back to you and isn't stored. We log the site's address, the result and the file size to prevent abuse.
Share links
A share link carries the shared notes, images included, inside the link itself. Creating one doesn't upload anything to us. Anyone you give the link to can open it, so share it only with people you trust.
How we use your information
- To sign you in and sync your library across your devices
- To keep a daily backup of your library, and restore it for you if you ask
- To fetch links you import, when you agree
- To answer your messages and support requests
- To keep the service secure and reliable
Who we share it with
Only the providers that run the service for us, and only as much as they need: Vercel (hosting), Amazon Web Services (encrypted file storage in the United States), Neon (database) and Google (sign-in). We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Notes in your browser stay until you delete them. Settings ▸ Erase all local data removes everything at once.
- Synced content and account details are kept while your account is active.
- Daily backups are kept for 30 days.
- Request logs are kept for a limited period.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal information at any time. To delete your account and everything synced to it, write to hello@markdownstudio.com and we'll confirm by email once it's done.
Self-hosted copies
Markdown Studio's code is open source. This policy covers only the service we run at app.markdownstudio.com and this website. If you run Markdown Studio yourself, or use a copy someone else runs, we receive none of that data, and whoever runs it is responsible for it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where it makes sense, let you know in the app.
